Brenda Magalhaes

I’m a filmmaker and photographer with a deep curiosity about people, memory and the way we experience the world. What moves me is reality. I’m drawn to stories that carry emotional complexity, personality and lived experience. I like projects that challenge the way we see things, making us question our own beliefs.

I’m naturally quiet, and observation is a big part of my process. Before filming or photographing, I try to understand the environment, the people and what feels true in that context. Whether I’m working with an actor, a community, a brand or an individual, I’m always looking for the meaning behind what I’m capturing.

Coming from an interdisciplinary background, I developed a deep appreciation for observation, aesthetics and transformation. Those experiences continue to shape my visual language and my interest in creating sensory, immersive visual storytelling.

Since moving into audiovisual work, I’ve directed and filmed two short films showcased at BYOF and worked behind the scenes on an award-winning short film recognized for Best Film and Best Cinematography. I’ve also expanded my practice across photography, documentaries, commercial projects and BTS productions. I enjoy moving between different formats, as they broaden my creative perspective and constantly challenge the way I work.

I believe visual storytelling has a direct impact on how we understand the world. Cinema and photography are influenced by society, but they also shape it. That’s why honesty matters to me. No matter the medium, I want my work to feel genuine and emotionally grounded.

More than being remembered for my name, I hope my films and photographs are remembered for the way they make people feel, think and return to them over time.
